NZ Says Goodbye to Disposable Vapes?

Disposable Vapes?

New Zealand is set to usher in significant changes later this month. The spotlight is on disposable vapes, as concerns about their future viability intensify. Are we witnessing the end of disposable vapes in NZ?

Let's discuss the details.

So, what changes?

The Ministry of Health is committed to enhancing safety for vape users, particularly children. The forthcoming rules, effective from December 21, 2023, are designed to bring about crucial alterations to the design and functionality of single-use and disposable vaping devices.

From the 21st of December, 2023, all single-use/disposable devices must require the following features:

  • Child safety mechanism: New Zealand has mandated a child safety mechanism to prevent unintended use by minors.
  • Removable battery:   Intended to add an extra layer of safety and ease of use for users.
  • Concentration of nicotine must not exceed 20 mg/mL:    To align with the NZ's goal to lessen potential health risks associated with vaping.

What is a child safety mechanism?

New Zealand implemented a mechanism that shall keep children away from operating vaping devices.

Thus, devices must have at least 2 simultaneous or 5 sequential operations before it is activated. On the other hand, it must include an automatic deactivation mechanism after 10 minutes of vaping cessation.

This means devices must feature a button that can be pressed 5 times to unlock the vape device, then automatically shuts off 10 minutes after vaping stopped.

[Our best disposable vapes are still available at the Puffing Kiwi website at the lowest price.]

We also have our new and very own ZOVOO DRAGBAR ICZ that is New Zealand Regulated. Feel free to check it.

Moreover…

By the
21st of March, 2024, all reusable/pre-filled pod devices must require the following features:

  • Child safety mechanism
  • Removable battery

Also, all e-liquid flavour names must be limited into 1 to 2 words. For example, flavour names like “cotton candy” and “blueberry cheesecake” will need to be replaced with more generic flavour labels like “berry”.

What to do?

With these regulatory changes, vapers may have to bid farewell to their favourite disposable vapes. But not too quickly. PuffingKiwi continues to provide disposable vapes at the lowest prices, ensuring enthusiasts can still access their desired products.

You can still buy our disposable vapes at the Puffing Kiwi before December 21st.
